About the event
The Center for Christian Studies invites you to Table Talk, an evening of dinner and discussion on Saturday, November 4, at 7:00 pm. Ben Peterson, assistant professor of political science at Abilene Christian University, will lead a discussion on “Pondering the Church Political: Power, Purpose, and Ecclesial Structure in Acts.”
Peterson writes, “The church is an inherently political project. That is to say, the church’s members, which collectively compose the body of Christ, are related to one another through citizenship in a spiritual commonwealth with distinctive norms, habits, and formative practices, along with processes for group decision-making. What is the nature of the church’s common life, its regime in the parlance of political analysis? How does the church’s politics impinge upon and relate to the politics of the civil-temporal realm? We will explore these questions through discussion of some key passages in the book of Acts, which traces the origins of the transformative, missional, spirit-led commonwealth Jesus instituted to await and advance his kingdom.”
The discussion is intended for adults and teenagers—anyone who can listen and participate is welcome.
Dinner will be provided. Please respond to the RSVP as soon as possible. Spaces will be limited.
