Sociological research reflects what American Christians have observed for a long time: “most teenagers drop out of church when they become young adults.” But why do so many young people fall away from the church when they become adults? The answer is not simple; the causes are many.
But research also suggests that this opting out begins earlier than many people realize, sometimes while kids are still at home, part of a church-going family.
It is of utmost importance—for parents, grandparents, and everyone interested in the future of the church—to consider how we can pass the faith on to the next generation effectively, in a way that lasts. What is going on, and what can we do better?
As part of the celebration of our fifth year, the Center for Christian Studies is offering a series of lectures intended to equip the church to live faithfully in our fragmented world.
Join us for the first seminar in this series: a presentation by Luke Dockery on “Building Faith that Lasts: Recovering a Biblical Vision for Passing Faith to the Next Generation.” Luke is a long-time youth minister, adjunct instructor of youth ministry at Harding University, and the founder of Deeper Youth Ministry.
Luke writes, “For decades, churches have invested enormous energy into youth ministry, yet many young people continue to drift away from faith after high school. Drawing on Scripture, research, and years of ministry experience, this session explores biblical principles that equip parents, engage the whole church, and help cultivate lasting faith in the next generation.”
