The Center for Christian Studies is pleased to announce two new video series on the history of the American Restoration (Stone-Campbell) Movement.
John Young, who teaches at Amridge University, has taught and written extensively about the Restoration Movement. He has now written and presented a new video series: "Personalities, Publications, and Politics in the History of Churches of Christ." In these 8 episodes, Young surveys the most significant figures in 19th- and 20th-century Churches of Christ, introducing viewers to the many doctrinal and socio-economic factors that characterized the debates and divisions within the movement. Viewers will come away with a better understanding and appreciation of Churches of Christ.
This series of episodes (most under 15 minutes each) is perfect for use in classes and small groups. As with our other video series, it is accompanied by a Study Guide with discussion questions. It will be of interest to everyone in Churches of Christ, as well as to anyone interested in American church history.
With this emphasis on the history of Churches of Christ, it seems like a good time to release an additional series called, "A Brief History of the American Restoration Movement." It is a series of 6 episodes, delivered in a longer format (45+ minutes each), originally recorded over Zoom during Covid lockdowns (cringe!). It features Keith Stanglin teaching on the history and theology of Churches of Christ, with follow-up questions from Todd Hall and brief discussion. The course is available free of charge.
