The eighth “Center for Christian Studies – First Things Lecture” is now in the books, and available on the CCS YouTube page. Once again, the event was a great success.
On Monday evening, September 9, about 200 people came out to hear Wilfred McClay, Professor of History at Hillsdale College and author of many books. The lecture topic was “Baptism of the Imagination.”
McClay began by noting how C. S. Lewis’ journey toward Christian faith was stirred by his reading of George MacDonald’s fiction. Lewis recalled that, in this experience of reading, his imagination was baptized. From there, McClay discussed the importance of the arts (in the broadest sense of the term) as a vehicle for stirring the imagination and pointing people to faith in subtle but also profound ways.
We at the Center for Christian Studies are grateful to Wilfred McClay for sharing his insights with our community, and we are grateful again to First Things magazine for co-sponsoring the event. We look forward to future collaboration with First Things.
Did you enjoy this lecture, and do you want to see more programming like it? If so, would you consider making a tax-deductible donation to CCS? We would love to partner with like-minded believers who will help us ensure the permanence of these annual lectures and provide reliable resources for Christians who want to dig deeper, grow in their understanding, and live more faithfully.
Give here, or contact us to find out how CCS can partner with you or your church or organization to instruct and equip believers who seek to better understand and practice their faith, and pass it on to others.
